At last it's finished and it is more of a history of road transport through
the 20th Century, including technological advances, major acts of parliament
and their effects, parliamentary wrangling in relation to the railways and,
of course, the potted life histories of 13 men who lived and worked through
times of such change, as told either by them in person or told to me by
their surviving relatives.

Jeff Dodd writes in:
We are changing engines on the animal rescue boat from a volvo penta petrol (too expensive to run)
to a B.M.C. LEYLAND COMMODORE, which will be a lot more economical to run, we are a small
charity group trying to look after the welfare of seals on the North Sea coastline.
What we are looking for is a workshop manual for the engine and the tech spec
ie revs to hp through the range from idle, idle in gear, up to full revs which I believe
is around the 2000 r.p.m. which should give us about 90hp.
If you or any of your members can help with our request we at animal rescue would be
most grateful
Many thanks in advance
best regards
Geoff

She was converted years

She is having
issues with her fuel filters and batteries at the moment so does not run.
We
need it gone asap but cannot find a buyer.
It would be terrible to scrap her
but we need the money tied up in her and if that is the only way we will
have to take her apart.
Asking price is £4k as we have been quoted that in
scrap.
Please get in touch if you know anyone who may be interested. She

RE: chassis for all the PTC of NSW 1970 Atlanteans is coded PDR1A/1.
Wanted: Documents, history, workshop manuals, service done in past, photos, mileage, and more for: 1970 #1035, Leyland Atlantian.
Below is what I now know??
1035, built for the Department of Government Transport and the Public Transport Commission of NSW in 1970 to 1972.
Much of the history related below came from Alan Travers when the bus was in Sydney service.
The subsequent history is from Ian Lynas.:
1035 was delivered 2/11/1970
Entered service 6/11/1970.
Withdrawn from service 11/1977 with at least 14 of the seven years in service being spent in store, "awaiting repairs".
This bus went to Chullora Workshops in service in November 1977 and became the first Atlantean to be sold when it went to Barraba, northern NSW.
To W. Forrester, Barraba, NSW as MO.7544, 5/1978.
Sold with the school run to Gregory of Barraba, NSW as MO.7544, -/1980‘s.
Resold to B&J Fenn, Barraba, NSW as MO.7544 for further work on a school run, 1990‘s.
Was filled with lots of "bog" around the centre of the bus body. Repainted in a lighter blue than when it was in service with the PTC.
Sold to Graham Duffin of the Queensland Omnibus & Coach Society on 7 April 2001. Driven from Barraba to Brisbane with an overnight at Texas, Qld/NSW border.
Graham transferred the bus to the Heritage Bus Association in 2004.
In 2007 he sold the bus to the Hunter Valley area of NSW for a tourist operation.
No further information known.

WANTED for 1971 Leopard coach ex-Southdown no 1835,
information leading to the capture of:
1. PSU3B/4RT high-ratio 2-speed axle.
Doug Jack's book "The Leyland Bus" says this should be a Maudslay axle as fitted to the AEC Reliance,
but the Leopards I've looked at have the Eaton axle. My PSU3C manual which is wrong for the vehicle lists it as "Maudslay driving head with
Leyland casing and hub assemblies 1700 Flange 2-speed BA.1019 3.31/4.56:1".
We shall also need the electrical solenoid, control system and
actuator switch etc.
A Leyland square 2-speed speedometer head would be nice to replace the modern tachometer.
A wiring diagram would also be helpful.
2. Hella light fittings for Plaxton Panorama -
Supreme IV GT headlights, the upper pair with integral flashers and the lower pair with integral sidelights,
plus Elite III lozenge rearlights, amber over white over red.
Vehicle may be viewed by Googling "UUF 335J".

I am about to take delivery of three Leyland 600 diesel engines which I believe date from the early 1960's.
They have been coupled to fire pumps from new and have only ever been subject to monthly one hour test runs.
Our business is primarily classic diesels for the marine market but I feel that these engines deserve to be in classic trucks or buses.
I'm not keen on exporting them and would prefer it if they remain in the UK.

I purchased this vehicle from the Chase auction but have been unable to find sufficient funds to get her roadworthy.
Now hubby needs a lot of care after suffering a stroke and I have decided to sell 266 to fund his care.
She hasn't turned a wheel in anger for a couple of years but will start from a battery jump pack.
Engine was changed after we bought her as she gave up on the way down the M5. This cost me a small fortune.
New batteries were put on about a year ago but as next door don't like me starting her she hasn't started since then.
She needs a new airbag on the front nearside but hopefully I have sourced one.
A bit of rot around the back offside corner and for some reason oil in the water which I suspect has happened
when she was having an engine change. Anyone with time and expertise wouldn't find this too hard a project to finish.
She comes with a complete set of glass.
I know the price I am asking may be too high but this is to cover my initial auction price and the cost of the engine
replacement so I won't be making anything from selling this vehicle.
I would like offers around £2500.
My contact email address is:- tracy47701@googlemail.com.
The vehicle is located at home with me in West Devon.

Any assistance please with sourcing the parts in the attached photos.
Charging valve: Current one is u/s. Need a complete unit. Bolts straight onto flat end of secondary air tank.
Pressure limiting valve: A repair kit would suffice but a new valve would be a bonus.
Also bolts straight on to end of secondary air tank.
Torsion tube. We really need just one metalastic joint. Leyland part No. 283280.
O/d is 3¾" and id is 11/2" . ( ie. 1.5 inches) These were common to Atlanteans right through to the AN 68 and possibly to PD2/3 models.

An Ex London RTL For Sale in the USA.
SEASHORE TROLLEY MUSEUM in Kennebunkport, Maine, USA is currently the custodian of ex-LT 1949 RTL 1628 - OLD 857
We rescued this bus virtually on its way to the scrap yard in 1990. It has never been a high priority for restoration, despite its unique attraction.
We now plan to go through the process to de-accession this vehicle from the Collection.
We'd like the vehicle to go to a "good home"!
If you, or anyone you know, have ANY INTEREST at all in acquiring RTL 1628, please let us know of that interest as soon as possible.
A brief description follows:Click on the images for full sizes

Chassis number is: 541265. Body: (maybe) Park Royal L3279 H30/26R
Chassis, engine & transmission all appear to be original. Bus was driven on site & a few times shortly thereafter.
Cab interior is intact & un-modified except for an aftermarket indicator switch. All the electrical equipment appears to be original and in place.
Some additional lights have been added at the rear.
There are no seats except the rear benches upstairs & down and the driver's seat. The interior downstairs has panels apparently over the originals.
Most of the windows are in place & the wind-up ones mostly work.
The roof has collapsed (this may not be the original roof). Both floors are well rotted.
Plenty of photos are available & I'll be happy to provide any additional more specific information as well as I can - just ask!
Once the de-accession process is complete, any removal costs would have to be entirely covered by whoever acquires the vehicle, including any immediate costs incurred by the Museum.
(Obviously a huge donation to the Museum will not be refused).
It is important that we know of ANY INTEREST at all, from anyone, as soon as possible, even if you cannot take action right away.
Of course the Museum reserves the right to dispose of the vehicle without notice.
Please contact either MVPeters@comcast.net
or Tom Santarelli, Curator of the Bus Collection TSDB1@juno.com

to all owners of preserved vehicles who are currently insured with Chaucer Insurance.
You will no longer be able to renew your insurance through your current broker, and may gain the impression that the Chaucer Insurance product is no longer available.
In fact it will continue to be available and the rating structure will remain unaltered as it has for the past 11 years.
All previous cover will continue to be available, for example, attending rallies, giving free rides, for wedding use, private hire, use on stage services and training.
If you wish to continue using Chaucer Insurance, or use them for the first time, you should contact Rigton Insurance Services,
who are now exclusively the only broker able to transact new and renewal Preserved Bus and Classic Bygone Bus cover with them.
Rigton are themselves enthusiasts who regularly attend bus rallies and enjoy meeting their clients there. Their clients are located throughout the UK.
You can contact them by Telephone 01943 879539, Fax 01943 875529, email enquiries@rigtoninsurance.co.uk
or their website www.rigtoninsurance.co.uk
I thank you for your understanding and look forward to hearing from yourself and Leyland Society members.
Regards and best wishes.
