2006 Leyland Society Gathering
Buses and coaches were plentiful at this years Gathering. The theme of the event this year was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Leyland Atlantean at the 1956 Commercial Motor Show and many examples of this well known vehicle were in attendance.

Two examples belonging to Fishwicks of Leyland are shown here enjoying a break between shuttle services to the British Commercial Vehicle Museum. The vehicle in the background is the only 'Quiet' Atlantean, (similar to the B20 'Quiet' Fleetlines produced by Leyland for London Transport) produced as a prototype by Leyland but not put into production as newer products such as the Titan and Olympian had been developed.

The National Bus Company corporate liveries are becoming part of the bus and coach preservation scene and no vehicle portrays it better than this smart example of the NBC standard double deck combination of Leyland Atlantean with Park Royal bodywork seen in NBC poppy red in the company of other Atlanteans in the vehicle display area.

Also present was this recently restored ex-Ribble Leyland Leopard dual purpose coach looking resplendent after many years of hard work. The simple but effective livery has been applied to complement the lines of the bodywork.

A more recent and much rarer visitor was this Leyland Royal Tiger Doyen of Harrogate Travel. A fine example of this high specification coach with both chassis and bodywork built by Leyland but in too small numbers to become a common sight on the motorways of the UK.
